Dirty Like Me by Jaine Diamond

Struggling barista Katie Bloom doesn’t even know who Jesse Mayes is until she inadvertently wins the coveted role of sex kitten in his hot new music video. But by the time she’s in bed with him, she knows his reputation.

Love maker. Heartbreaker.

Making out with a stranger in front of a camera crew isn’t how Katie imagined herself getting over a broken heart, but when Jesse touches her, sparks fly. The sex is fake but the chemistry is real, and soon the steamy video is blazing up the charts.

Then Jesse makes Katie an irresistible offer: act as his girlfriend for six weeks while he promotes his new album. The only catch? Their sizzling make-out sessions will be for the cameras only.

Which is fine with Katie, since she’s not about to trust her heart to rock’s most legendary lover. Her body? Maybe…

Surprisingly the author did a wonderful job keeping a balance between bad boy Jesse Mayes who is a cocky rock star and the more sensitive and caring Jesse. The author developed a background that gave the perfect depth to this character. I wanted to dislike him – he normally isn’t my type – but I just liked him despite myself.

Katie started out as a great character. I liked her all the way up until she flakes near the end. I won’t say any more but I just sort of frowned through that part. It was crazy emotional – seemed to come out of no-where and isn’t fully explained until later. That being said overall I liked Katie as a character too.

Secondary characters were there as well – some interesting. I liked Katie’s friend/agent. She’d be a fun character to see in a future book.

It is a romance. Need I say more? Okay fine. This did have more substance but it wasn’t a complicated plot. It was a romance plot with a dash of drama and the conventional look at famous life and all its ‘baggage.’ For a romance it did what it was supposed to and I liked it.

Interesting characters, decent plot, and steamy sensual scenes. What more could you ask for? A better ending. The ending was going so well and then it was ruined. I don’t want to say too much but the decent story and the romance, plus the enjoyable characters wasn’t completely and utterly overturned by the ending but it was a disappointment for me. I verbally scoffed. So for me I just pretend it didn’t happen and the rest of the story is great!

4 stars

Interesting characters, decent plot, and steamy sensual scenes. Well worth the read. If you need a happily ever after ending this is for you. Sadly the ending goes too cliche for me and knocked this down a peg in my eyes. Still a very enjoyable read!

I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
